In the known orthodoxy of art, the functional aspect of a mug poses a challenge to its status as a subject matter. The ‘Bird Box’, with its unusual placement of a cup in a box, secured high up on the wall, calls attention to this profound imposition of how we live with and see objects that are overtly functional.

I like the idea that the art persists in the way of expression. Often, it falls upon the artist to curate the order of a collection of work. With the ‘Bird Box’, the possibility for expression extends beyond, opening up the possibility for different groupings and configurations of boxes.
