The milking stools represent the stool in its most humble form. Inspired by the traditional milking stool that has been made here in England for many centuries these stools were originally made for milking cows and offering the sitter a stable perch, even on uneven ground. Each stool features a unique hand carved top.

Bobby Mills is a self-taught craftsman and designer based on the rugged Atlantic coast of North Devon, South West England. In his work Mills explores the relationships that exist between human-led and nature-led design. By working in collaboration with the natural features of the wood Mills seeks to express the essence of the trees he works with in furniture pieces and other sculptural objects. With no formal training Mills works unhampered by technical process, instead relying on a sensitive approach to nature and intuition.

Mills has work housed in private collections across the world and has gallery representation in London, Japan, Canada and Taiwan.

Burr Oak

Prized for its rare and unique character, English burr oak has celebrated for its special character for hundreds of years by woodworkers. Every burr is unique, its character and grain shaped by its natural environment.

Natural burr is caused by a natural response in the tree where it thinks it needs to continually spring new buds and leaves for self preservation, almost like a genetic dysfunction. The bud growth begins, and creates the burr, then stops and these build upon each other to form the burr. In its most severe form it will be burr throughout the tree. Again this can be localised within a tree, but is special when the trees has so much burr character.
